is a non-profit dedicated to assisting and encouraging women on their journey in recovery from addiction. Our mission is to help them improve their lives using the resources and guidance from our community.

To put it simply, we can't do this without YOU. Search your hearts and find out what you can spare. A house to rent? A single bed? A microwave? A teachable skill? One night a month to sleepover?? Or how about some good ole' money? There are constant needs in a project like this but the sad reality is... without a community wide solution, our children will continue to die. For many of ours, it's too late but we will give our last breath to save yours! Tell us how you can help or more importantly, tell us how we can help you. Do you have a loved one that can benefit from our services? Please call. We want to help.
With Hope, Guidance and Love we can

save lives

Empowerment Housing in Talbot County, MD gives an addict a hand up...not a hand out.
DONATE
The Eastern Shore of Maryland has been struck particularly hard by the rise in drug related deaths. We all know far too many families that are reeling from the loss.

Rising Above Disease is an organization that was formed by a group of women whose lives have been touched by the disease of addiction and feel passionate about initiating change.  We recognized that Talbot, Caroline, Queen Anne and Kent Counties had no recovery houses for women. Our women seeking a protected place to recover were being forced to go to across “The Bridge” to find hope.  We had plenty of hope right here but not one single bed.  Until now.

After we have helped her sort out her basic human needs, we begin to address her emotional and spiritual needs as she starts on her road to recovery.  Sorting out the lingo of recovery is easier with a guide. Words like sponsor, home group and spiritual principles can be confusing when you’re on your own.  Learning new life skills like balancing a checkbook or writing a budget don’t have to be difficult, if someone is willing to show you how.
We address and assist in areas like resume writing, interview skills, dressing for success, and so much more.

Support

RAD:Rising Above Disease of the Midshore Community Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) under the fiscal sponsorship of the Midshore Community Foundation

We provide the most basic of human needs, a roof over their heads, a comfortable bed, a clean shower and the comfort of other women who want to help.  We provide assistance in obtaining medical care, dental care and mental health services. We assist our residents in the overwhelming tasks of straightening out the unmanageability of their lives. The bank, the DMV and the Social Security office are often scary places for a confused woman in early recovery.  We walk side by side with these women, as we empower them to manage the details of their lives.  These simple skills, that many of us take for granted, could be the deal-breaker that drives a woman back to her previous lifestyle.

We believe our RADical new approach, which includes community involvement, in conjunction with the learning of life skills in a supportive, loving environment is a recipe for success that hopefully, has very few repeat customers.
And finally, we guide and assist as each resident leaves the protected environment of the house and ventures out on her own.  We remain a beacon of support for her until she no longer needs it.  By then, maybe she will have joined us in welcoming the next broken and confused woman, as we wrap our arms around her and tell her it’s going to be ok now; that’s she’s safe and that there’s hope.
